Time for another look at books recently adapted for theatres: choose the movie, or the book, or both!

Hunter S. Thompson goes gonzo in The Rum Diary. Johnny Depp brings another of Thompson’s creations to life, after doing Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.

The Help is one of the most popular books, and movies, of the year!

For a legal thriller, check out The Lincoln Lawyer. Starring Matthew McConaughey and written by Michael Connelly.

Get your Canadian content fix with Mordechai Richler’s Barney’s Version, or the film starring Paul Giamatti.

One more for the ladies: Sara Gruen’s Water for Elephants, or the film with Robert Pattinson and Reese Witherspoon.

And those are just a few of the books on film you can find at WSPL!

With movies like Water for Elephants and Jane Eyre in theatres, we thought we’d take a moment to bring up some movies that started as novels that you can find at the library:

The American, the movie directed by Anton Corbijn and starring George Clooney, and the book by Martin Booth.

The Picture of Dorian Gray, the movie directed by Oliver Parker and starring Ben Barnes and Colin Firth, and the novel by Oscar Wilde.

Eat, Pray, Love, the movie directed by Ryan Murphy and starring Julia Roberts, and the book by Elizabeth Gilbert (we also have it in Italian!)

Repo Men was a book by Eric Garcia before it was a movie by Miguel Sapochnik.

You can check out Shutter Island as a Martin Scorsese/Leonardo DiCaprio movie, Dennis Lahane’s novel, or a graphic novel adaptation by Christian de Metter.

Nicholas Sparks’ Dear John was adapted for a Lasse Hallstrom movie.

A lot of Cormac McCarthy’s novels have been adapted as movies, and one of the most recent is The Road, directed by John Hillcoat and starring Viggo Mortensen.

Check out Watchmen, the seminal graphic novel by Alan Moore, or the movie directed by Zack Snyder.
